Born in East Orange, and raised in Newark, New Jersey, DJ Jibril was first introduced to mixing disco, and R& B music by his Uncle in the early 1980’s, he was also inspired by Ted Courier of NY Radio Station, WBLS. His playing style led him to residencies at The now defunct, Peppermint Lounge early on in his career as a DJ. His music can be described as soulful African house music.
Over the last few years DJ Jibril has had mild success with his Dark & Deep party which was held at a popular but now defunct, Newark, NJ dance venue called the “Coffee Cave” on the 2nd Friday of the month and his Back 2 Wax party with resident DJ - Pitch Control, playing on the 3rd Friday of the month.
Always looking for an opportunity to share his musical sound selection with the masses, Jibril continues to guest DJ at various local dance parties in the New Jersey dance scene.
Some of his favorite artists include Josh Milan, Louie Vega, Jihad Muhammad. He feels the current state of house is growing because it has expanded all over the world, there are so many different categories and it is still growing.
